What are SAP Services?
SAP services are designed to help people who have experienced a drug or alcohol violation understand and address the circumstances and factors related to the violation. The goal is to identify any areas that need to be addressed and provide the appropriate education, support, or treatment when needed. SAP services also provide employees with a structured path to meet return-to-duty requirements and become eligible to return to safety-sensitive work.
Who are SAP Services for?
SAP services are for employees in DOT-regulated, safety-sensitive positions who have had a drug or alcohol violation and want to become eligible to return to safety-sensitive work. This may include a positive drug or alcohol test, a refusal to test, or another violation of DOT drug and alcohol regulations.
These employees may include CDL and commercial vehicle drivers, school bus drivers, pilots and other aviation employees, railroad workers, public transit employees, pipeline workers, and maritime employees. Anyone in a DOT safety-sensitive position.
What does the process look like?
The process begins with an initial session that includes a comprehensive assessment and clinical evaluation to understand your substance use, circumstances related to the violation, and other factors that may be important in determining what assistance you need.
Based on the assessment, I will develop an individualized treatment plan that you will need to successfully complete before moving forward in the return-to-duty process. I will provide referrals and resources to help you complete your treatment plan objectives and will assist you with connecting to appropriate services when needed.
After you have completed the treatment plan objectives, we will meet for a follow-up evaluation to review your progress and determine whether you have successfully met the requirements. Then, you can move forward to the return-to-duty testing portion of the process. A follow-up testing plan will also be established as required by DOT regulations.
-
The length of the process is different for each person and depends largely on the treatment plan objectives that result from your initial assessment and how long it takes you to successfully complete the treatment plan. I will explain what is required after completing your initial evaluation and help you understand the steps you need to take. My goal is to help you move through the process as efficiently as possible while meeting all DOT requirements.
-
After you have successfully completed the recommendations, we will complete a follow-up evaluation. If I determine that you have successfully completed the treatment plan, I will provide the required documentation so that you can move forward in the return-to-duty process. Before you can perform DOT safety-sensitive duties again, you must have a negative test for the return-to-duty DOT test.
-
My fee for SAP services is $700.
This includes your initial SAP evaluation, follow-up evaluation, required SAP reports, and necessary communication with professionals involved in your return-to-duty process, such as your Designated Employer Representative (DER), Medical Review Officer (MRO), and education or treatment providers.
-
Yes. My SAP fee does not include the cost of drug or alcohol testing, education programs, treatment or counseling, or other outside services that may be recommended as part of your return-to-duty process. The services you need are based on your individual assessment, so additional costs will vary from person to person.
